If you've spent any time around SkyGOAT, you've probably heard us talk about GOATgrid.

But what the heck is GOATgrid?

Is it just another fancy fabric name? A marketing buzzword? Or is there actually something different about it?

The short answer is this:

GOATgrid is the heart of every SkyGOAT garment. It's our own custom performance fleece that we designed because we couldn't find a fabric that did everything we wanted.

Most outdoor fleece makes you compromise.

Some are warm but bulky.

Some are lightweight but feel fragile.

Some breathe well but aren't very comfortable.

Others feel amazing on the couch but become sweaty messes the second you start hiking uphill.

We wanted one fabric that could do it all.

So we built it.

Why We Created GOATgrid

Outdoor adventures rarely happen at one temperature.

You start your hike in a chilly parking lot.

Twenty minutes later you're climbing uphill and overheating.

You stop for lunch and immediately get cold.

Later you're relaxing around camp while the sun disappears behind the mountains.

Most people end up carrying multiple layers because each one only does one job well.

GOATgrid was designed to reduce those compromises.

Instead of forcing you to constantly add layers, remove layers, or wish you had packed something different, GOATgrid is engineered to stay comfortable across changing conditions.

So... What's Different?

The secret is in the grid...and it's not just any grid.  We figured out the perfect weave, size, construction, channels and recycled polyester to pull it all together.

Unlike traditional fleece, GOATgrid uses a microgrid construction. If you look closely, you'll notice a pattern of raised squares separated by tiny channels.

Those little channels do a lot of work.

They trap warm air when you need insulation.

They allow heat to escape before you overheat.

They move sweat away from your body faster.

They reduce bulk while improving packability.

In simple terms, GOATgrid helps your body regulate itself instead of fighting against it.

What Does That Mean in the Real World?

Technical features are great.

Real world comfort is even better.

Here's what GOATgrid actually means when you're outside.

You Stay Comfortable Longer

Ever start a hike freezing, only to be sweating 30 minutes later?

GOATgrid breathes exceptionally well, allowing excess heat and moisture to escape while still providing warmth when you slow down.

That means fewer clothing changes and fewer "I'm too hot... now I'm too cold" moments.

It Packs Smaller

Nobody enjoys carrying bulky clothing.

The grid construction compresses more efficiently than traditional fleece, which means your layer takes up less room in your backpack.

More space for snacks. We know your priorities.

It Dries Fast

GOATgrid is made from recycled polyester fibers that are naturally hydrophobic, meaning they don't absorb water like many fabrics do.

Light rain, sweat, or morning dew won't leave your fleece feeling heavy and soggy.

It sheds moisture, dries quickly, and keeps working even when conditions aren't perfect. It's important to note that GOATgrid is water resistant, not waterproof, so you'll still want a shell in sustained rain.

It Moves With You

Nothing ruins a hike faster than feeling restricted every time you reach, climb, or scramble over rocks.

GOATgrid has natural stretch built into the knit, giving you freedom to move without feeling tight or stiff.

Whether you're casting a fly rod, climbing a ridgeline, splitting firewood, or simply reaching for another marshmallow, your layer moves with you instead of against you.

It's Ridiculously Soft

Let's be honest.

Performance doesn't matter much if your clothing isn't comfortable enough to wear all day.

Every GOATgrid fabric goes through a meticulous brushing process that creates an incredibly soft feel against your skin while minimizing shedding.

It's technical enough for the trail and comfortable enough that you'll probably keep wearing it long after you've made it home.

Built for More Than One Adventure

One of the biggest compliments we hear is:

"I bought it for hiking... but now I wear it everywhere."

That's exactly what we wanted.

GOATgrid wasn't designed for one activity.

It was designed for real life.

Morning coffee.

Walking the dog.

Fishing your favorite river.

Weekend camping trips.

Road trips.

Travel days.

Mountain towns.

Brewery patios.

Backyard campfires.

Because most people don't want a different jacket for every occasion.

They want one that feels great almost everywhere.

Better for the Planet Too

Performance shouldn't come at the expense of the places we love exploring.

That's why GOATgrid is made from recycled polyester yarn, helping reduce waste while delivering premium performance. It reflects our commitment to creating gear that's built to last, built to be worn often, and built responsibly.

The Bottom Line

GOATgrid isn't just another fleece.

It's the result of asking a simple question:

"What would happen if comfort and technical performance finally stopped competing with each other?"

The answer is a fabric that's lightweight, breathable, warm, stretchy, packable, moisture managing, incredibly soft, and versatile enough to become the layer you reach for day after day.

We couldn't find the perfect fleece.

So we made it.

And once you wear GOATgrid, you'll understand why it's at the core of everything we build.
